With the craze of the holidays almost over, it’s time to sit back and relax with a season or two of your favorite TV show. If your post-New Year’s plans involve some downtime with your computer or TV, read on for some tips to take your marathon TV sessions to the next level!

Choose your show. Finding something to watch is half the battle, and many a would-be binge watcher is discouraged because they are spoiled for choice. If your favorite six people in the world are named Chandler, Joey, Monica, Phoebe, Rachel, and Ross, however, you’re in luck: Netflix will release the entire series of Friends to its streaming service tomorrow!

Get comfortable. Clear off your couch (or bed or other chosen viewing location) so you have enough room to stretch out. Stock up on blankets and wear comfortable clothes so you won’t be distracted from Olivia Pope’s antics by your pants digging into your waistline. As for footwear, well, you can’t go wrong with a snuggly pair of bunny slippers.

Set up your refreshments ahead of time. Make your popcorn, cookies, or other snacks and place them in an accessible spot so you don’t need to interrupt your show to go get another helping of Christmas leftovers. If you’re not going to make your own food, order pizza or other delivery before you start watching. Don’t forget about staying hydrated: make sure you have something to drink nearby, too!

Take breaks as needed. This is your time: don’t feel like you can’t hit pause and go to the bathroom if you need to. It’s also probably a good idea to get up and stretch every so often so your limbs don’t fall asleep, and your eyes will welcome a break from staring at your screen.

Keep your charging cables close. Nothing’s worse than realizing your computer is about to run out of battery and the charger is nowhere to be seen! Avoid that moment of panic by setting yourself up near a reliable outlet.

Don’t go overboard. Too much screen time is actually not great for your overall health, and if you keep clicking “next episode” or let autoplay take control, pretty soon it’s 2 in the morning and there goes half your night’s sleep! Set a schedule (like 3 episodes or until 11 pm— set an alarm!) and stick to it. Your body will thank you.
Invite others! If there’s anything better than marathoning your favorite TV show, it’s watching a lot of episodes with a couple of friends. One person can bring the snacks, someone can provide beverages, and someone else can round up all the blankets.
Enjoy!
